Monday, August 4th, 2008

In a letter to Ohio educators, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner recommends the LWVO civics CD “How Ohio Government Impacts You…” The letter reads as follows:

Dear Ohio Educators:

As Ohio’s chief elect ions officer, I am pleased to recommend an introductory program to Ohio citizenship that the League of Women Voters of Ohio Education Fund has recently developed. The program is part of a larger project called “imPACT – Political Accountability for Citizens Today” that the League has undertaken with grants from both the Kettering Fund and Joyce Foundation. How Ohio Government Impacts You; How You Can Impact Ohio Government can now be accessed on the project’s website

Developed with the assistance of students from three central Ohio high schools, How Ohio Impacts You… is an interactive, fun program with a smattering of Ohio history, fun facts and attractions, as well as a sound introduction to Ohio government and citizen participation. Users can explore the structure of Ohio government and be linked to many government agencies that can help them.

Also, the program offers practical guidance to voting and participating in our government. With the click of the mouse, users can obtain registration materials, find answers to frequently asked questions, view video demonstrations of the voting machines we use, and link directly to their own county Board of Elections.

The League of Women Voters of Ohio Education Fund is an Ohio leader in researching and funding state issues and educational projects that provide information and educational services to promote civic participation. Our office supports these educational efforts, and we look forward to helping promote this and other worthwhile programs toward this end. If you have any questions please fee l free to contact me.
