About Us: The League of Women Voters of Ohio (LWVO) is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. We empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation at the state and local levels with over 3500 members and 35 local Leagues across Ohio.
Reports to: Executive Director
Type of Position: This temporary, full-time position starts immediately and runs through early December 2024. This organizer would be working with LWVO staff, local Leagues, other grassroots organizations, individual volunteers, and key allies across Ohio on a redistricting reform initiative.
Qualifications: We are looking for a skilled community organizer who can work with people of diverse backgrounds and is committed to strengthening Ohio’s democracy. Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, experience working with volunteers and grassroots groups, and the ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks at a time are required. Must adhere to employee policies regarding nonpartisanship, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and stewardship of our resources and brand. Basic proficiency in Google workspace and/or Microsoft Office is also required. Experience with digital organizing tools are a plus but not a requirement. The ideal candidate is passionate about democracy, dependable, outgoing, willing to learn, comfortable with technology, and thrives in a high-pace environment.

Responsibilities:

Develop, train, support, and oversee teams of volunteers collecting petition signatures and conducting voter outreach

Identify, recruit, and incorporate potential volunteers into the campaign

Build and maintain professional, positive relationships with key partners, stakeholders, LWVO staff, and community leaders.

Help manage collateral for signature collecting and GOTV

Help manage events for signature collection and GOTV voter engagement.

Work closely with partners and volunteers to develop and implement direct voter outreach strategies, including voter registration, rallies/events, canvassing, phone/text banking, etc.

Assist staff, local Leagues, and redistricting coalition with communication updates including weekly and monthly emails and calls to members and key partners.

Attend virtual and in-person meetings on behalf of LWVO.

ADA specifications: This position requires a mix of sedentary work performed in an office setting and more physical work in the field (including outdoors). The physical demands of this position include the ability to: use a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment; lift up to 30 pounds; bend, stoop, walk, and stand at events or while canvassing; and travel within Ohio (with a valid driver's license and personal vehicle).
Compensation, Hours, & Location: LWVO offers a 37.5 hour work week. Based on experience, the salary range for this position is $42,000 - $50,000. With responsibility for coordinating and training volunteers across Ohio, some of this work will take place in our office; this staffer will also need to work evening and/or weekend hours as well as travel within the state of Ohio. Parking and/or a bus pass will be provided for travel to and from the office; mileage and other costs associated with pre-approved travel outside of Columbus will be covered. Given that it is a temporary position, some comp time and paid holidays will be offered.
