Mission

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

What Does the League Do Now?

The League of Women Voters is a peoples' organization that has fought since 1920 to improve our government and engage all Americans in the decisions that impact their lives.  We never endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, but we are political.

LWVO:

  • Recruits and develops members

  • Provides support to 33 local Leagues across the state

  • Takes positions on public policy matters and lobbies for policy changes

  • Encourages our grassroots members to lobby through action alerts

  • Collaborates with a number of citizen groups to influence elected officials

  • Provides many voter services and educational projects, such as:

    • Voter registration drives

    • Publications and brochures

    • Nonpartisan candidate forums

    • On-line electronic voter information and candidate guides

    • Nonpartisan issue forums

Formed from the movement that secured the right to vote for women, the League of Women Voters' most important efforts continue to be expanding participation and giving a voice to all Americans. We do this at all three levels of government, engaging in both broad educational efforts as well as advocacy. Our issues are grounded in our respected history of making democracy work for all Americans.
