2023 Ohio Election Calendar
Jan. 01: Applications for absentee ballots for all 2022 elections may be accepted (first day of the year)
Apr. 03*: Deadline for voter registration for May 2 primary/special election (30 days before primary election)
Apr. 29: Applications for absentee ballots to be mailed for May 3 primary election must be received by boards of elections by noon (three days before primary election)
May. 02: Primary Election Day. Polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Boards of elections must receive absentee ballots, returned in person or via a method other than U.S. Mail, by the close of polls)
May. 12: Absentee ballots returned by U.S. Mail must be postmarked no later than May 1 and received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (10 days after primary/special election)
Jul. 10*: Deadline for voter registration for August 8 special election (30 days before special election)
Aug. 05: Applications for absentee ballots to be mailed for August 8 special election must be received by noon (3 days before special election)
Aug. 08: Special Election may be held. Polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Boards of elections must receive absentee ballots, returned in person or via a method other than U.S. Mail, by the close of polls)
Aug. 12: Absentee ballots for August 8 special election returned by U.S. Mail must be postmarked no later than August 7 and received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (10 days after special election)

Nov. 04: Applications for absentee ballots to be mailed for November 7 general election must be received by boards of elections by noon (three days before general election)
Nov. 07: General Election Day. Polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Boards of elections must receive absentee ballots, returned in person or via a method other than U.S. Mail, by the close of polls)
Nov. 17: Absentee ballots returned by U.S. Mail must be postmarked no later than November 6 and received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (10 days after general election
