Barbara grew up in Akron and Cuyahoga Falls. She joined the League of Women Voters of the Akron Area in 2013 and was president from 2015-2018. She remains a LWVAA board member, and has led Voter  Service activities including VOTE411, candidate forums, and production of LWVAA’s  print voter guide. She also served on the Bylaws and Budget committees and ad-hoc  committees. Now serving as the League of Women Voters of Ohio's Treasurer, she is also a member of the LWVO Budget and Finance Committee.

Barbara holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public health from the University of  Hawaii. After interning at the US Public Health Service in San Francisco, she settled in  the Bay Area and for over 30 years, worked for several state medical societies. In the last half of Barbara’s career, she was Executive Director and CEO of a 4,000-member  medical specialty society. She oversaw all aspects of organization management and  worked with the board to carry out its mission.
